In a special board meeting, Unity Fort Worth’s Board of Trustees decided to begin our reopening process with an additional phase to the already communicated three phases. This additional phase, which will be the first, is focused on a partial reopening of the campus for outside gatherings without access to any of our buildings, which will allow groups to gather under certain restrictions. The board-approved policy is as follows:

Reopening Process Policy – Phase 1 – Outside Gatherings

  • Outside gatherings on campus are permitted observing the following guidelines:

    • Keeping social distance of a minimum of six feet apart (unless living in the same household).

    • Wearing a mask at all times (unless at a safe distance of 12 feet apart or more).

  • No access to any buildings is permitted at any time.

  • All individuals feeling compromised, vulnerable, or otherwise unwell are asked to refrain from coming on campus.

Additional Considerations

  • Unity Fort Worth (UFW) will not provide any cleaning, disinfecting, or any other services at this point in time.

  • Anyone gathering on campus does this at their own risk and waives any liability toward UFW. UFW is not responsible for any consequences resulting from those gatherings.

  • All are responsible to bring their own protective gear.

  • Groups deciding to meet shall make sure they are not conflicting with other groups.

  • Any amplified music is prohibited. Any acoustic music may be only be played if other gatherings are not disturbed by it.

  • Restroom access is graciously provided by the Planted Bakery across the street during business hours (see plantedbakery.com).

Enjoy Our Peace Garden

With the board’s decision to start reopening our campus, even though partially and with restrictions, the beautiful work our garden team has done over the past months can finally be enjoyed by those feeling safe to do so. Plants and bushes have been pruned, flowers have been nurtured, and the tireless weeding process put the Peace Garden in probably the best shape it has seen in years. A big thank you to our wonderful garden team led by Todd McCann.

Please note the previously published phases of reopening, which are now four in total:

Phase 1 – Outdoor Gatherings

During this phase, a partial reopening of our campus allows for restricted outside gatherings without building access, based on the appropriate policy put in place by UFW’s Board of Trustees as outlined above. The board reserves the right to close the campus again if the requirements for outside gatherings are not followed.

Phase 2 – Campus Reopens

Indicator: UFW reopens for congregational gatherings including small groups.

During this phase, we are officially reopening the UFW campus for congregational gatherings on Sundays, including a limited availability to our small groups. At this point in time, the government and public health officials have clearly indicated that it is safe to do so, including UFW’s leadership and board of trustees’ confidence in following the recommendations. Currently, we are aiming for a complete and inclusive opening that would allow anyone, including those deeming themselves as vulnerable and compromised, to gather. This approach may require us to stay closed for a little while longer, but it may just be worthwhile doing so.

This phase will allow groups to gather in the Wellness Center (A, B, and C) while construction work is completed around the campus. During this time, no cleaning or disinfected services are provided. Anyone meeting on UFW premises will do so at their own will and at their own risk. Groups are expected to clean up after themselves as no cleaning services are provided at this time.

Phase 3 – Construction Complete

Indicator: The various construction projects are complete to allow groups to gather.

After reaching phase 2, those groups meeting during office hours may be able to meet in the sanctuary building, depending on size and requirements. Groups meeting outside of office hours will continue using the Wellness Center (A, B, and C) until such time the security/safety measures are in place. Sunday groups will be able to meet as the premises will be opened for Sunday gatherings.

Phase 4 – Security/Safety Measure in Place

Indicator: The necessary security and safety measures are in place to allow groups to meet outside of office hours.

Reaching phase 3, the necessary security/safety measures are in place, which will allow groups to gather outside of office hours (e.g., evenings). UFW continues to be in support of allowing groups to gather and use its facilities. However, the requirement to provide additional security and safety seems feasible and will be recognized in the future.

Summary

UFW’s four-phase approach to the reopening process is based on the currently available information regarding the Covid-19 development. Changes as to this approach can occur at any time and may entail adjustments to the initially envisioned plan. UFW’s goal is to keep everyone safe while recognizing the desire to gather in person. We will do our best and due diligence to maintain the necessary balance to accommodate all.

Blessings,

Jean-Marie
