What does it mean to be a member @ UFW?

The UFW Membership Committee, established in October 2020 and consisting of members and board members, defines the meaning of membership as follows:

  • A commitment to practicing Unity Principles and Teachings

  • A commitment to regularly attending services and events

  • A commitment to serving in any capacity in support of our community

  • A commitment to financially support UFW

These commitments are seen as opportunities to grow. They are applicable to anyone showing up in person or participating virtually.

What does it mean to be a board member @ UFW?

The board of trustees represents the membership in matters of strategic leadership, fiscal responsibility, and policy regulations. As such, the expectations of a board member significantly extends beyond that of a contributing member.

The UFW Membership Committee defines the meaning of board of trustee membership as follows:

  • Active membership for at least one year (Bylaws §IV.2.A.)

  • Demonstration of being a practicing student of Unity as evidenced by attendance of Unity-based classes, courses, workshops, retreats, etc.

  • Demonstration of living in accordance with spiritual Truth Principles as taught by Unity

  • Ideally, demonstration of active leadership in our community

Path to Membership

To become a member at UFW, active involvement in our community is recommended, and completing our membership class and at least five volunteer hours (some exceptions accepted) are required.

Active Involvement

We recommend an active involvement in our community, such as

  • participating in Sunday services,

  • finding opportunities to volunteer,

  • getting involved in one or more book studies, classes, workshops, or programs,

  • meeting members of our congregation and leadership (e.g., board of trustees, ministers, LUTs, etc.),

  • and participating in our various events.

Membership Class

Completing our membership class is required to be eligible to apply for membership. Our membership class both available online and in person for your convenience. You may choose which one is more suitable for your needs.

To take the membership class, please click here.

Five Volunteer Hours

An additional requirement to apply for membership is to serve at least five hours on one of our many volunteer teams (exceptions are accepted). Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Rebecca Jeter, at volunteercoordinator@unityfortworth.org to discuss a volunteer opportunity that fits your liking and brings you joy.

Apply for Membership

Once you have taken and passed the membership class quiz (there are unlimited attempts possible), apply for membership with the form below. Once submitted, you are step closer to your membership approval by the board.

Welcome Call with the Senior Minister

After your application, set up a brief virtual welcome call with the senior minister.

This short, 15-minute welcome call will allow you to connect with the senior minister one-on-one to share ideas, ask questions, make comments, etc. This is a casual rather than formal meeting and designed to ensure that every applicant had at least one chance to connect with the senior minister.

Recommendation to and Approval by the Board

After the virtual meeting and if deemed appropriate, the senior minister offers his recommendation for approval of your membership at the next board meeting as required by our bylaws.

Welcoming and Blessing by the Membership

Once approved, new members are welcomed and blessed by the congregation and membership during a special new member Sunday service. This occasion will also include the handing out of a membership certificate, signed by the senior minister and the board president, as well as a small gift. Additionally, the senior minister will lead the congregation to a congregational blessing and welcome of the new members.

At this point, you are officially accepted into the membership at Unity Fort Worth. Congratulations!

Membership Renewal

Why do I have to renew my membership?

  • Unity Fort Worth’s (UFW) bylaws (§IV.3.B.) stipulate a yearly renewal of membership as a sign of the desire to remain a member of UFW and the recommitment to its Teachings, values, and responsibilities.

  • This process is done electronically (see form below). Assistance and tech support are available.

  • Failure to renew the membership will result in a member status change from active to inactive.

  • We appreciate your consideration and welcome you to another year of joyful membership.
