The Physics of the Quest
What happens when we're willing to leave behind what we know, in order to grow? In this exploration inspired by Eat Pray Love, we’ll journey beyond borders—through Italy, India, and Bali—and into the deeper terrain of the heart.
Based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestselling memoir and its 2010 film adaptation, Eat Pray Love invites us to leave behind the lives we’ve outgrown and follow the quiet pull of Spirit. It’s a story of grief, awakening, and the sacred power of saying “yes” to the call of transformation. Along the way, we encounter the healing of pleasure, the discipline of devotion, and the courage it takes to live life with an open heart.
Gretchel Johnson joins us in person for the final installment of our Metaphysics at the Movies series. Come explore what it means to wander, to wonder, and to wake up to your truest self.
The Symphony of the Soul
What if the Universe is always playing a song just for you — and all you have to do is listen? In this metaphysical exploration of the 2007 film August Rush, we’ll dive into the power of inner guidance, divine timing, and the sacred sound of connection that draws us home.
August Rush follows a musically gifted orphan named Evan who believes he can find his birth parents through the music he hears and creates. As he navigates life on the streets of New York City, he adopts the name August Rush and catches the attention of a charismatic but controlling mentor. Meanwhile, his parents—an Irish singer and a cellist—are unknowingly being drawn back together by the music that connects them all.
Rev. Aliza joins us live and in-person as we continue our "Metaphysics at the Movies" series with August Rush. Come tune into the music of Spirit and discover how your soul’s symphony is always unfolding in perfect harmony!
The Art of Being Alive
What if the point of life isn’t to achieve something grand—but to feel the breeze, taste the pizza, and witness a falling leaf with awe? The Disney/Pixar movie, Soul, gently unravels our obsession with purpose and invites us into the wonder of right now.
The story follows Joe, a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn't quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is jazz. But when he travels to another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it means to have soul.
As we continue through our “Metaphysics at the Movies” series, we invite you, guided by Rev. Aliza connecting virtually, to explore this beautiful film through the lens of spiritual awakening and rediscover the magic in ordinary moments.
Launching into Possibility
To kick off our "Metaphysics at the Movies" series, we step into a story—a story about courage, imagination, and the unseen potential within each of us—with a message entitled "Launching into Possibility." After viewing the 1999 film October Sky on Friday evening at 6 PM in the sanctuary, we will reconnect on Sunday at 1 PM to delve more deeply into the key spiritual takeaways from the movie, based on the true story of Homer Hickam.
Set in a coal-mining town in West Virginia in the 1950s, Homer lived the life of a coal miner’s son. As a teenager, others expected him to follow his father into the mines. Then Homer saw the Russian satellite, Sputnik, streak across the October sky, and something stirred in him. A vision. A call.
Have you ever had a dream or a calling that seemed completely out of reach—a longing that didn’t match your current reality? Join Dr. Nancy Little to explore how Spirit speaks through that longing. She will guide us to consider how to say “yes” to that inner call—and launch into new possibility.
