Unity’s Five Principles

  1. There is only one Presence and one Power in our lives and in the universe—God, Goodness, Omnipotence.

  2. We are God expressing such inherent Goodness.

  3. Our way of thinking and feeling shapes how we experience our lives.

  4. We use prayer, meditation, denials, and affirmations to expand our spiritual Understanding.

  5. Knowing these Principles is not enough. We must act upon and live them every day.

History of the Unity Movement

Unity cofounders, Myrtle and Charles Fillmore, were students of the Bible and of New Thought, seeking to understand the metaphysical principles as taught by Jesus. In the late 1800s, through personal transformation using prayer and meditation, they began a movement that to this day empowers spiritual seekers across many cultures, religions, and continents.

In 1890, Myrtle and Charles began a prayer group that became the foundation for Silent Unity. On December 7, 1892, they wrote this dedication and covenant:

We, Charles Fillmore and Myrtle Fillmore, husband and wife, hereby dedicate ourselves, our time, our money, all we have and all we expect to have, to the Spirit of Truth, and through it, to the Society of Silent Unity.

It being understood and agreed that the said Spirit of Truth shall render unto us an equivalent for this dedication, in peace of mind, health of body, wisdom, understanding, love, life and an abundant supply of all things necessary to meet every want without our making any of these things the object of our existence.

In the presence of the Conscious Mind of Christ Jesus, this 7th day of December A.D. 1892.
