January 19, 2004: Don't short-change yourself

Today, determine to never short change yourself again. This doesn't mean going on a spending spree and amassing large amounts of stuff to affirm your self-worth. It means realizing who you are, just as you are.

At this very moment life is energizing and renewing the trillion cells of your body. The natural yet incredible intelligence of the mind is at our disposal. The limitless possibilities for love and compassion that are our true nature are patiently waiting to express.

This week I remember that the only person putting limits on me is me. And I am the only one who can choose to set me free.

January 12, 2004: It's easy to judge

It is so easy and seemingly so attractive to judge others. It makes us feel superior but it also diminishes us because by judging we are separating ourselves from others in our world.

In Truth everything is interconnected and so how we choose to respond to others determines what we allow for ourselves. Knowing this, it is wise to avoid judging.

Who are we to judge anyway. We never have all the information. Only God does. And God has only love to give. Always, in every circumstance.

As I go forward this week I dedicate myself to a Spirit centered life. I determine to give love instead of judgement. I know that when I do so I feel free and expansive.

Today I release myself from the tight knot of judgement and allow God's healing and relaxing love to bless me and to bless all those whom I meet.

January 5, 2004: Today, everyday . . . new beginning

Today, everyday, is a new beginning. We stand at the gateway to new opportunity. These are not just nice, positive statements to make us feel good. They are the way things are.

The tragedy is that we treat what could be a new opportunity as the same old stuff, down-grading our lives to a boring routine, a ho hum reaction that numbs our spirit.

Not today. Today I claim something more - a fullness of life that inspires and heals. An embrace of all I am created to be. Why settle for anything less?

This life is a wish-fulfilling gem that brings to me what I dare to name and claim.

December 29, 2003: When I honestly think

When I honestly think about it what do I have but this moment to feel and be free. So much of this precious life can be taken up in busyness and distraction. Too often we hang out in the past reliving and repeating old stories, or we restlessly plan for a future that does not exist.

Right now take a deep breath and relax. In this moment what needs to be added? In this breath is anything missing?

As I walk forward this week, I simplify everything by choosing to enjoy life moment by moment, embracing the freedom of now.

December 22, 2003: No matter the weather

No matter what the weather is like you can carry your own climate within you. In other words we do not have to be unduly influenced by the events and circumstances of our lives. Nothing needs to send our temperature rising unless we insist on it.

This does not mean staying like an ice cold automaton unaffected by other's needs and feelings. The opportunity to be calm and centered, cool and collected, is a God given gift. It is full of quiet energy and power.

This week I let the still small voice of Spirit within me bring peace and harmony into my world.

December 15, 2003: So often we search

So often we go searching for the solution anywhere but where we are. Perhaps it can be found on the mountaintop, in the latest best-selling self-help book, or, sadly, only after we die.

The solution is often so simple we can miss it, just like the fish who traveled the ocean searching for water. It is so near we can overlook it. So wonderful we dare not believe it.

Jesus put it this way, "The kingdom of heaven is within you". Look, not with outer eyes, but with insight.

This week I learn to trust the expansive wisdom and love at the heart of me.

December 8, 2003: Did your teachers?

Did your teachers ever exhort you to pay attention?

Being told what to do often leads to its opposite. However, the most important gift we can ever give ourselves is the quality of paying attention.

When we look, clearly, with focus, we see. We become present to our lives and to those we love. We gain insight thanks to our willingness to be here.

So much that is precious is wasted through inattention, distraction and forgetfulness. This week I make a decision to look, with honesty and courage.

It is truly amazing what we can notice about our environment, our colleagues, our friends and loved ones, and about ourselves when we choose to be present and see.

December 1, 2003: Can't judge a book by its cover

You can't judge a book by its cover. Nothing is as it seems. Appearances can be deceiving.

Yes, we all know these phrases. They counsel us to look beyond the surface of things. Yet so much of life is taken up by a fascination with the superficial.

This week take that journey beyond. Look into somebody's eyes. Listen, without judgment to what they have to say. Notice the quality of the sky, its ever-changing beauty; call that friend.

The journey to a richer life is here, now, just beneath the surface.

November 24, 2003: You can change your mind

Do you realize that you can change your mind? You don't have to be stuck in a rut, in an old habit, in a numbing routine. Just because daddy always did it that way doesn't mean you have to.

It took a cataclysm to knock the apostle Paul off his high horse of holier than thou habit.

Yet that fall into the arms of God gave him the wisdom to encourage us with these words, "Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind."

This week my mind is open to a new way of seeing and being.

November 17, 2003: When things don't go your way

What do you do when things don't go your way? Do you get angry, even abusive, or do you sulk and act out. Perhaps you find someone to blame.

The truth is that things don't always work out our way. So what.

It is not what happens to us that is so important but our response to it. I may not be able to control circumstances but I always have choice over the attitude I take.

This does not mean that I sugarcoat my problems and attempt to live in a lala-land of false happiness.

It does mean staying open to new information, and new understanding.

This week don't let events control the amazing person you are created to be.
