Weekly Prayer

February 28, 2008

It is important to feel connected to ones heritage and traditions and be proud of the journey of our ancestors and what has been build. Often, though, we uplift our own at the expense of someone else's traditions. This leads to rivalry, mistrust and eventually to conflict and war.

We see this happening throughout our world. Cultures, religions, ways of thinking and being clash, often over misunderstandings rather than real differences.

In Unity we celebrate diversity while seeing that, at core, we are all one as children of God. God, the creative and sustaining principle of the universe, is no respecter of persons but loves and provides for all. We divide, God does not.

Dear loving God, help us to remember that we are one in you. Humble us, so that we cease to feel superior or inferior to others. Help us see that while our humanness can divide, the Spirit in us always connects. May we always put the Spirit of love first in our hearts, in our thoughts, in our words, and in our actions. With You, all things are possible. Thank you God. Amen.      back to top

January 23, 2008

When the weather is cold we wish for warmth and the cosiness of our fireplaces. When it is hot we seek refuge in the air conditioning. Such is the changeable nature of our human responses. Sometimes we are very happy when we are complaining about something We do not always appreciate our blessings until they are gone.

This is not the whole of who we are. At our center is a place of calm and peace, wisdom and power this is OK amid heat or cold, highs or lows, good times or bad.

Spend time today remembering the truth that within you is that spiritual center of peace. When we contact that place and then live from that awareness we find that nothing has the power to disturb us. We can act skillfully and effectively.

One of Unity's greatest affirmations reads, "I am eternal and poised in the Christ Spirit. Nothing can disturb the calm peace of my soul."

Let these words of power and truth help you stay centered today, no matter what is going on. And so it is. Amen      back to top

January 7, 2008

A new year comes with new possibilities, new ways of seeing and being. To truly embrace the new we must be willing to release things, ideas, habits and patterns that no longer serve us. Doing so creates a vacuum so that further good can flow.

This week activate the two-fold process of releasing and claiming.

On the physical we can move along old items or junk that is never used. Eventually we may want to release hurts and resentments that are not benefiting us. Intellectually it may be a time to reconsider and re-examine our position on a person, topic or situation.

Follow up this releasing with an attitude of openness to God's abundance. Claim the ideas and the qualities that you are willing to manifest this year. As you draw them in through intention, prayer and affirmation get clear about how you can live them. How can I be more loving with my family or in my community? How does wisdom modify my attitudes at work and at home?

This life is a great adventure and the tools of release and attraction can benefit us and our world greatly.

2008 here we come.      back to top

December 15, 2007

This Christmas time let us focus on the joyous birth of Jesus, a powerful symbol of God's intimate relationship with us. God is not separate or purely transcendent. God is with us, within us, among us. This is the meaning of the word Emmanuel - literally, God is with us.

This both reminds us that the holy, the pure, the essence of love happens in the ordinary places of our lives: in the stable, on the street, among the animals.

When we magnify this spiritual child through our praise and adoration, as the magi and the shepherds did, we receive wonderful blessings. We feel that connection with the Spirit of love in everything.

Dear God, thank you for the birth of Jesus and thank you for the birth of love and joy in my heart this Christmas time. This gift of Spirit is greater in every way than any other gift. I choose to keep my focus and make my priority YOU this holy holiday season. And so it is. Amen.      back to top

November 10 , 2007

Join me at this time in affirming a statement for peace that acknowledges our essential oneness as human beings on this planet.

The Spirit in me stands for peace in the presence of conflict; for love is the presence of of hatred; for forgiveness in the presence of injury. The Spirit in me honors the many names for God, the many paths to God, the many ways to worship God; for there is only one power and presence of God and that God loves each one of us equally. It is therefore our heartfelt desire to urge all nations, their leaders and their people to turn to God, by whatever the name, for guidance during these challenging times and to pursue peace, not war, for this is what honors the God of all our faith traditions. Spirit has the power to create peace in our lifetime.

Knowing this to be the Truth I rest, dear God, in your arms of comfort and safety, seeing order established and love prevailing in my consciousness and in the world. Thank you. Amen       back to top

October 26, 2007

Are you a human being having a spiritual experience or a spiritual being having a human experience? The answer we give provides an indication of who we see ouselves as being. If we are human beings first and foremost then spirit is something added to us, something to strive for. If we are spiritual beings then the allness of spirit comes first and informs our journey in human form.

In Unity we often affirm that we are spiritual beings, living in a spiritual universe. this makes all the difference. With spirit first and foremost we have all we need to live happy , successful, abundant and loving lives because spirit is characterized by abundant good, love, joy and capability.

Dear God, I let go of the idea that I am only human or that I am struggling to be more spiritual. Instead, I realize that the essence and truth of me is divine. I am spirit in action and spirit cannot fail. This is not an arrogant statement becuase I realize that the same spirit that is in me is in all people. Thank you God for the gift of your spirit of love and wisdom at the heart of who I am. And so it is. Amen       back to top

October 4, 2007

Join me today in a prayer of gratitude.  It does not matter what we are grateful for.  Rather it is about choosing to hold an attitude of gratitude, because this consciousness of thanksgiving attracts greater good into our lives just as it blesses and heals.

It has been said that if we only have one prayer to say our whole lives long, that prayer would be, Thank You, God.

In that statement is a recognition of all we receive on a daily basis–our life, our provision, our chance to love and to make a difference.

Dear God, Thank You.  I can add a list of things but really I simply thank you as the source of my good.

I cultivate gratitude in my life today and watch as the blessings flow.

For all you are, dear Lord, Thank You.

And so it is.  Amen.       back to top

September 19, 2007

Each day is an opportunity to begin again.  St. Paul noted that he chose to die daily, so that he could be born again, renewed the next day.  We know that our bodies are self renewing and our minds are too.

The problem lies in staying stuck in yesterday. Living in the past, seemingly conditioned by old events and circumstances, keeps us from living fully in the now.

Certainly, many things have happened that are cause for sadness and regret.  But they are of the past, not of today.  This day, refuse to let them join you in this present moment.  Acknowledge their part in your history but not in your current life.  Affirm that you are an ever-renewing, gloriously alive spiritual being and as such you are free, as God creates you to be.

Dear God, I accept my humanness and my past, but I am not conditioned by these things.  I am ready to be fully alive in this moment.  I claim your good, your love, your infinite possibility in my life today.  I know that with you, God, all things are possible.  For this I give thanks.  And so it is.  Amen.      back to top

August 29, 2007

Disappointments inevitably happen in life. People or situations do not always measure up to our expectations. Life is problematic and not guaranteed to meet our every need. To expect it to do, so even when the evidence is to the contrary, leads to hurt, resentment and bitterness. We can become cynical and negative. These attitudes, of course, faithfully attract further disappointment and difficulty.

There is a better way. I can realize that I do not need outer events, people or situations to be perfectly aligned with my ego needs for me to be happy. Within me, within each of us, is a centered presence of joy and love, the very Spirit of God, that is not adversely influenced by the changing backdrop of our lives. Indeed, it responds to disappointment not with resentment but with compassion. Instead of a barrier it offers love and insight.

Affirm with me this week that the changing nature of the world has no power over Spirit. I can remain centered in love no matter with the circumstance and so be blessed and become a blessing to others. Thank you God for giving us the victory over the disappointments of life. And so it is. Amen.       back to top

August 13, 2007

It is stated that life is a vale of tears, a valley of deepest darkness. This is true. Yet it is also true that life is laughter and joy, a pleasant land of light and love.

The important thing to remember is that these states do not exist independently. It is not sometimes gloomy and other times rosy. Like high and low, day and night, darkness and light, joy and sorrow exist together, supporting and clarifying each other. Like yin and yang, they are the essential polarities that create the whole.

We are called to be like the king whose philosophers chose a simple statement for his royal ring that would keep him centered and balanced, neither too elated nor too depressed. The statement is, "This too shall pass."

God is the one presence of love that brings us safely along this railroad of joy and sorrow, triumph and despair. God uses these contrasting qualities to help us find harmony and peace.

Dear God, I realize that everything in my life has a purpose. Instead of resisting the dark and clinging to the light I welcome all into my life because it is for my learning and healing. I found the true meaning of life through my willingness to embrace all. And so it is. Amen

We are imprisoned or set free by the choices we make. Even if we are in a literal prison with steel bars all around us we can be free in Spirit when we choose to focus on the possibility and freedom of God. There are indeed instances in the Bible when walls and bars came down because of the focus and faith of those seemingly imprisoned.

In recent times there are example of POWs and people in Nazi concentration camps who have persevered inspite of unbelievable odds. In nearly every case they succeeded because their focus was not on the pain and suffering but on a higher awareness of what could be possible.

If you are in some kind of prision today - a prison of fear, pain or 'ain't it awful,' refocus...Move your mind in God's direction. God loves you and wants you to be happy, whole and free. See yourslf as God sees  you. The more we come to this the more God and God's quailites flow into our lives.

Thank you God for being here within me even when I am not  fully aware of you. I strive to place my heart and mind on you though the day. You have the power to set me free. And so it is. Amen       back to top

June 21 , 2007

Let's take a little time now to pray. Prayer is simply being still and listening to the quiet and calm Presence of God.

Remember that God knows what we need even before we ask, so there is no need for too many words or complicated requests.

Also, God provides, so there is no need to fret or be concerned. Lack and fear are in us not in God. As soon as we enter the Presence we are provided for.

So, for this moment, we sit still in prayer knowing that God is here for us. We greatly affirm that all that we need is now flowing to us to bless, heal, prosper, and enlighten all aspects of our lives.

Dear God, I let you flow through me this day. As I receive I am willing to give so that the circle of your love be made complete. Thank you for this time of stillness and prayer. I know that it will revitalize my day, and keep me moving forward with confidence and vigor. For all this God, thanks. Amen

May 9 , 2007

In Matthew 25 Jesus characterizes the righteous as those who fed the hungry, gave drink to the thirsty, were hospitable to strangers, clothed the needy, and visited the sick and those in prison.

All these actions point to caring and compassion, not just to friends and loved ones, but to strangers, the weak and the poor.  In other words, a willingness to practice expansive love. His words are not necessarily to be taken literally, they are examples of how to behave and live.

Today I ask myself: am I ready to live the expansive life, to help, to love, to care, to forgive.  If the answer is yes then I can be assured that I too will be cared for and loved because I receive what I am willing to give.

Dear God, I am open to love, to being a compassionate presence in my world.  When I can approach people in this trusting, helpful way then I can truly receive the blessing of the Christ when he said, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."  For your help in my life, dear God, I thank you always.  And so it is.  Amen.          back to top

April 12, 2007

In the gospel of John when Jesus was calling his first disciples, two of John the Baptist's followers turned to Jesus and said, "Rabbi, where are you staying?' Jesus replied, "Come and see." And so they went with him.

The Spirit of Truth sends the same invitation to us: come and see. Be willing to find out, to follow the promptings of the heart, to live an expanded, more adventurous life.

This week affirm that you are ready to go on your life's journey with Jesus, with the Christ, with God. There is no need to do it alone. We have, as our wondrous resource, the presence of Spirit as love and wisdom. No matter the trials and difficulties, God is with us. The risen Christ rises in our hearts and in our lives.

Dear God, Thank you for your presence in me and in everything. Thank you for Jesus, our great wayshower, elder brother, savior. Thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit - the loving activity of the divine in action in the world. I am ready to come and see.  What great good you, God, have in store for me. And so it is. Amen        back to top

March 29, 2007

The triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday is an example of the support we experience when things are going well. Everything seems to fall into place and we sense a lot of praise and joy.

In Jesus' case this praise was short lived. He was soon to be betrayed, abused, killed. Yet he faced it all with grace, strength and compassion.

The question we must ask ourselves is how do I respond to times when things go wrong, when there are curses not blessings from those around me, when the crowds of supporters fall silent and the mob  appears.

In a metaphysical sense the thoughts and feelings of hurt and anger and pain can so easily overshadow the joy we feel when things go well.   This coming holy week, then, enjoy the good times but with a commitment to remember Spirit and love and  possibility during the hard times. It has been called grace under pressure.

Dear God, help me remember you in good times and bad, in highs and in lows. You are the source of  strength and power, wisdom and love. I trust you to bring me through to resurrection. You have the ability to do so and I am grateful. Amen     back to top

March 8, 2007

The great spiritual law of attraction is getting a lot of attention recently because of the best-selling book and DVD "The Secret."  All religious and spiritual paths teach this law but until we make a heart connection with it it does not impact our lives.

Jesus knew the law very well when he said things like ask, believing and it will be yours, or give and it will be given to you, or do not judge and you'll not be judged. In Unity we call it the law of mind action and phrase it like  this: Thoughts held in mind, produce after their kind.

Take some time today to investigate the nature of your thinking and feeling. If you find that you are spending more time on anxious thoughts, or fears and ideas of lack than you are on faith-filled thoughts, love and abundance then you might want to consider changing the focus of your consciousness. After all, we all want to bring good things into our lives. And in our heart we all deserve to be a blessing to others.

It has been said that we cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought because what goes around come around.

Today I determine to let God's limitless consciousness of good to be first place in my mind, thoughts and affairs. Thank you God your helping me do so. And so it is. Amen     back to top

February 15, 2007

When Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego were thrown bound into the burning, fiery furnace they were not harmed even though the fire was so intense it killed the guards who threw them in. In fact, they were seen standing, unbound and unharmed with a mysterious fourth person. The Bible does not say who this person was but we can surmise that the angel of God or the Holy Spirit was with them.

Why did they  survive? Because their total focus was on God and not the the problem at hand. Even though the fire of anger and hurt was intense it had no effect on their spirits. They trusted that God would provide and he did.

Jesus alludes to a similar promise when he says that when two or more are gathered in his name, there he is with them.

Whatever fiery, fearful circumstances are in your life right now, remember that God is greater than any fear or hurt. God provides. God's presence is there for us and helps us through the fire. The Christ Spirit gives victory over any and every trial and tribulation. Today, I trust in God.    back to top

February 1, 2007

It is often stated that "Only love prevails." In the Bible it says also, "Great is truth, and it prevails." Of course the greatest truth is that God is love, and as children of God our essence is love too.

No matter what comes and goes, and most every thing does, love prevails. It is stronger than conditions, objects, circumstances; stronger even than death.

In this month dedicated to love, know for yourself, that love is never depleted, it is always available, it is faithful and true.

Channels of love may change but love does not. Therefore I do not look for my security or love in the passing show. Love is an inside job. It flows to me and through me. I am an attracting force that brings me every good thing when I give up my neediness and realize my wholeness.

Dear God, my prayer is very simple. Thank you for love. Yes, thank you for love. And so it  is. Amen.

January 11, 2007

It has been written that, "There is nothing we can do to make God love us more.  There is nothing we can do to make God love us less."

In other words, it is not about changing God but changing ourselves.  The less and more lie not in God but in us.  God gives.  The question is are we ready to receive?  Do we believe we deserve abundant good?  Do we dare to take time to be in God's presence?  There are so many distractions both in our heads and in our environment that we use to keep us from communion with the One.

This new year is a good time to turn the distractions down and turn reality up.  What is more important--- to love or to watch a love story; to give or to hear about another's generosity; to complain or to do something constructive about it?

Dear God, I know that you love me unconditionally.  I determine to spend more time, focus and energy with you this year.  I am excited about going on this life adventure with you.  Help me remember that, with you, miracles and wonders are possible, everyday.  And so it is.  Amen.   back to top

December 25, 2006

As we celebrate Christmas 2006 and look forward to the new year we have a chance, an opportunity, once again to renew ourselves.  The message of the birth of the Christ is the birth of love and life in the stable of our hearts.  It is an affirmative message that tells us, emphatically, that we are the very temple of God; that God as love abides in us.  What a wonder and a blessing this is.

And so we can take that message of worthiness and mystery into our new year and live a life of appreciation, helpfulness and success.

Dear God,

Thank you for pouring your spirit into all flesh.  Thank you for the demonstration and life of Jesus Christ; a first fruits of that love embodied in flesh.  With Spirit we know that everything is possible and so we move forward into the new year filled with your love, wisdom, inspiration, and possibility.  Thank you God for everything.  You are the Source of all good.  And so it is.  Amen.     back to top

December 4, 2006

The traditional church year begins at Advent when we take four Sundays to prepare for the coming of the Christ. Each week a candle is lit for hope, peace, love and joy - four essential qualities of the Christ-centered life.

This season of new beginnings is an invitation to all of us to allow the liberating qualities of the Christ to dwell consciously in us. Instead of despair, hostility, hate and misery, we choose to affirm God's presence as hope and peace, love and joy. These qualities uplift and expand who we are and what is possible for us.

This Advent season why not  focus on that which you would like to see made manifest in your life. Know that when you focus on the good God hastens to be born in you.

Dear God, I am open and receptive to the presence of the Christ in me this Christmas and Advent season. I welcome you into the stable of my being and into the manger of my heart. And so it is. Thank you God. Amen

At this time of Thanksgiving let us, once again, give thanks for the fact that we live in a society characterized by abundance and freedom.

Let us give thanks for the freedom to choose.

Let us give thanks for loved one, alive and dead, for friends and all they bring.

Let us give thanks for life itself and the precious gift of love.

Let us give thanks for the light that illuminates us - the light  of Spirit that shines everywhere.

Let us give thanks for nature, for the beauty of the seasons, for any pets we might have.

Let us give thanks for inspiring teachers, wayshowers, exemplars  of the higher way.

Let us give thanks in all circumstances knowing that God is there in everything.

In this Thanksgiving time it feels so good to give thanks, and so we say, for everything, Thank You God. Amen     back to top

October 26, 2006

The prophet Micah said in chapter six of his book: "It's quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don't take yourself too seriously - take God seriously."

When we do these things and respond from this motivation our lives are guaranteed to run effectively. Things may not always be smooth but they will be meaningful and rich. Justice, love, loyalty and openness to God bring great blessings into our lives. They also help us to sleep soundly at night

Are there old behaviors, habits and thoughts that you are ready to relinquish? Do you acknowledge that they are  holding you back. Forgive, let go of resentment, uplift possibility, be centered in Spirit. Walk humbly with your God.

Dear God, I am here for you. May your will be done. May your super abundant good flow through me today to bless and to heal. May I feel your presence of love in my life today. In thankfulness I pray. Amen

September 21, 2006

The Message translation of the Bible presents the words of the prophet Micah is chapter 6, verse 8, like this:

It's quite simple; Do what is fair and just  to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don't take yourself too seriously - take God seriously.

When we do these things we live an expansive; open-hearted life. We are no longer so wrapped up in ourselves but, instead, we are  aware of the presence of God in every situation and in every person.

Why accept anything less? Today is the day to realize that God calls us to live an empowered and purposeful life. As Saint Paul writes to the Ephesians, "God chose you to be his people, so I urge you now to live the life to which God called  you." This life is abundant, loving, full of thankfulness and possible.

Dear God, I awake from dreams and slumber to accept the truth that I am your child filled with your love, wisdom and power. I am determined to go forward living life to the full and being a blessing in my world. So it is. Amen.     back to top

August 30, 2006

There is an ancient Latin saying that states, "Bidden or not bidden, God is present." In other words, whether we remember or realize it or not, God continues to actively create, sustain and renew the universe and all that is in it. This is wonderful news.

When we do remember we open a door in our consciousness to activate this presence of God in the everyday situations of our lives. It is not that God suddenly becomes present or active. Rather, we awaken to the wonder and magnificence that is always available.

Today, know that God is here and, even more than that, God is here for you.

Dear God, I realize today that you delight to be activated in me; body, mind and spirit. Your love is enhanced and expanded when I choose to express it. Your will is fulfilled when I allow the Christ in me to bless and to heal. Today I affirm that I am centered and poised in you and all is well in my world. Thank You God. Amen.

August 8, 2006

We are always on the threshold of new opportunity. Often this shift into a new awareness happens when there is struggle or upset. We are forced out of our comfort zones. Sometimes it happens when we make a decision to change - to open to something new. It has been called the power of intention. Regular times of affirmative prayer, of  welcome to the gifts of life, can bring us across the  threshold also.

Remember, that  Spirit, the Christ, the Presence of God, stands, always at this threshold, their doorway and waits for us to respond. God is always present, always ready to be activated.

Dear God, I know that  I am always standing at the threshold of newness of life. Even if I do not feel it, your presence is there. I just need to take one step toward you and you take a hundred toward me. I affirm that your desire for me is limitless good and so, with courage, I move forward, trusting in your plan. No one is against me. Everything is a lesson. Love is here, and love prevails. Thank you God. And so it is. Amen.

July 31, 2006

The founding fathers declared that  essential rights for all people were "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Often happiness has been interpreted as having lots of money and possessions. With wealth and buying power, the argument goes, we are bound to be happy.

Unfortunately, this is not true. Although the United States has enjoyed an unparalleled standard of living for decades, the level of content and happiness has remained the same. In many cases, wealth and possessions bring more discontent and anxiety. The "have more" mentality leads to pressure, envy and world weariness.

Today, I bless what I have, but I also acknowledge that money and things are not the source of my happiness. I remember, that, as a spiritual being, my happiness comes from within; from the  abundance of love, peace and joy that God provides.  I send blessing to all those who chase after possessions. I see them realizing that they have everything they need,  as do I.

Dear Lord, today I turn within to the heart of peace, contentment and true happiness that is at the center of who I am. You are there and in your there is no lack. Thank you God. Amen.      back to top

July 24, 2006

Join me today in contemplating the idea that everything is sacred. This means that everyone we meet is an expression of the divine. Everything we see is holy.  Even conditions and circumstances that seem less than a blessing are really just that in disguise. There is a sacred essence to everything that happens to us.

By looking at life this way we are releasing the need to change everything and letting go of the search for perfection. It is already here, in everything.

Dear God, I know that what you create is good. Therefore what shows up in my world is also good. I refuse to resist and instead I choose to look for the blessing in everything that appears today. I let go of the endless need to control and instead I become present to what is. It is in this present awareness that  you are most fully available to me. For this I say thank you. Amen.      back to top

June 26, 2006

On of  Unity's basic principles states that: We are co-creators with God, creating reality though thoughts held in mind. In other words the world we see is the world as interpreted and expressed through our thoughts and feelings. If our thoughts are aligned with God qualities we experience the flow of God's creative good. If our thoughts are centered on lack and separation we begin to see that same lack and division in our world.

Today turn the tables on limited thinking. Realize that the world does not control you. Within you is that which is greater than the world. This Spirit within, or God reality, is the truth of the universe. By aligning with it I am able to be truly creative, blessed and whole.

Dear God, today I acknowledge you as the source and substance of the universe and everthing in it. I fast from limited or negative thinking and I choose to remember and focus on You. By so doing you provide me with rich blessing, a super-abundace of all good. I vow to use it wisely and well for the benefit of all people. Thank you God. Amen.      back to top

June 13, 2006

As the heat continues to  rise as June unfolds I invite you to maintain your own inner thermostat. Just as a cool, relaxed attitude is needed to combat the heat so a centered, trusting approach to life is effective in dealing with the circumstances and people that are difficult, heated or frustrating.

Today I choose not to react to outer events or circumstances. Instead I rely wholly on the inner center of truth where Spirit dwells in fullness. The Bible calls this "the secret place" or the "still small voice." Jesus referred to it as the "inner or secret chamber" the place where we are in the presence of God.

Dear God, I take my lead not from the world but from You. I enter your presence and receive all the gifts I need; gifts like love, peace, wisdom, power and joy; to live effectively. I bring this centered awareness into my world as a blessing. And because I do this I am really blessed. And so it is. Thank You God. Amen.

Join me for the next 21 days in taking  time each day to be in rememberance of God. This can be done in so many ways. Perhaps we choose to pray or meditate in the morning and evening. Perhaps we can dedicate our actions to God. Perhaps we use a mantra or an affirmation throughout the day.

When we forget to be conscious of God we do not scold ourselves but gently bring our focus back to

Spirit. Maybe there are people you can send prayers of healing light for each day. We can focus on the names in the prayer chest at church. We can enjoy uplifting music or mindfully walk in nature.

Dear God, we ask you to help us be in rememberance of you and your qualities of  limitless good, love, joy, wisdom and peace this day and for the next 20 days. As we come of age symbolically on the 21st day we can take our rightful place as your child, ready to put your truth into action in our lives. And so it is. Amen

How do you respond when things don't go your way? It is easy to feel depressed or angry or upset. Perhaps we lash out or curl up in a ball. And these ways are understandable but they are also counter-productive. There is a higher way.

This higher way is the spiritual awareness that no one is against us. We self-create our world of struggle and duality. In truth, everything is for our learning and our greater good.

Today I see that all events, circumstances and people are here to bless me. I welcome the speedy learning of my lessions in life. I neutralize apparent  reverses by seeking the good within them. I let go of having to attach results to my ego.

Dear God, I know that in you I am free. When I love, you dwell in me and your love is perfected in me. I love myself and others today and thereby set myself free of any limiting conditions. No one is against me today. Instead I realize that I have much to give. Thank you God. Amen

As the seasons unfold so we too notice the flow of life energy  in our loves. With every breath we are cooperating with the creativity of the universe. It is a constant process of releasing and embracing. Without the one we cannot have the other.

Today I choose to release old, outworn thoughts and feelings and to embrace the new, spiritual thoughts and feelings that I deserve to be made manifest. I release the need to control, and embrace the ability to cooperate with the divine flow of life.

Dear God, thank you for giving me the power to both release and to embrace. As I breathe out I let go. As I breathe in I welcome the good that you are. Just as the birds and animals, the trees and the flowers open to you, so too am I available. I allow the wonder of the kingdom of heaven to bless and enrich me now and always. And so it is. Amen

April 18, 2006

As we move forward from Easter we can consider just how we can embody the truth of resurrection in our lives. The risen Christ brings the message of victory over death, of renewal in the midst of old and outworn patterns, of awakening to the infinite possibility of love.

So this week I know that I am more than just a physical being. Within me is the all conquering Spirit of the Truth. I remember who I am.

This week I know that I am only limited by my unwillingness to think differently. I can choose to change my mind and let new understanding guide me to greater things.

This week I follow in the way of love and compassion that Jesus lived. This love is infinite and knows no limitation or lack.

Dear God, I thank you for Jesus. For Jesus' message and his demonstration. Thank you for the truth of resurrection alive in me as a redeeming force today. I live life fully with enthusiam and vigor knowing that Jesus the Christ is within me always and within me as the whole Spirit of Love. And so it is. Amen.

April 11, 2006

This week, let us give thanks for Jesus. Even in the time of greatest trial and difficulty he never lost sight of the truth that only love prevails. He was willing to lay his life on the line to show us the way of resurrecting love. He taught it, and he demonstrated it.

This week I know that when troubles come they are not permanent. They come to pass. And in the midst of trial and suffering and crucifixion is the presence of God, who is love.

This week I am willing to follow Jesus and put love and God and Spirit first in my life. Barren, even dead, times may come but I perservere and walk as into the light. God sustains and guides me along every step of the way.

This Easter time I say thank you to Jesus. thank you to the Christ Spirit that resurrects. Thank you that in everthing there is a blessing, and thank you to God for your everlasting arms of love that surround and protect me always.

I demonstrate love this Easter season

And so it is. Amen

April 4, 2006

As the weeks progressed Jesus was moving ever closer to Jerusalem and the events that awaited him there. Even though many of those events were to be painful and horrific he was willing to do what the Father desired, and although there was suffering, he know there will be the victory of resurrection.

In the same way we may be called to face different decisions and the painful events in our lives. We may not see the overall plan but we are led by a higher spiritual force along life's way. To guarantee victory over strife we can follow the example of Jesus Christ - to surrender to God's will of good, and love and resurrecting power. Then, no matter what the difficulty, God enfolds us in his everlasting arms of protecting love.

Dear God, I trust you today. I choose to cooperate with your planning to learn my lessons quickly and embrace the resurrecting love and power that you are in my life. I am ready to march on through the Easter season. And so it is. Amen      back to top

March 23, 2006

God has the power to bring something out of nothing. This is how the universe was created. If this wasn't good news enough, it is even more wonderful to remember that this same creativity is in us. As children of God we have the power to fashion our world according to our thoughts. If you doubt this think of all the objects you see around you  - cars, houses, planes, bridges, stoves, computers. Each one came from an idea in mind. Before it existed in manifestation, in the physical, it was an invisible idea in consciousness.

This week, know, then, that you are capable of doing great things in accordance with what you choose to hold in mind. God is limitless, creative good. Allow that creativity to work in you. Be still and know. And then be willing to act.

Dear God, I affirm that because of you I am creative. I can bring forth ideas of all kinds from the  limitless reserve of my consciousness. when the ideas flow, I choose to activate them in word and deed so that I can truly prosper and be a helpful and enriching presence in my world. And so it is. Amen      back to top

March 6, 2006

There is no limit to the power of the mind. Through our thinking we can change what happens in our lives.  In Unity we call this power the law of Mind Action which states that, "Thoughts held in mind, produce after their kind."

Consistently holding thoughts of lack or fear or "ain't it awful," will bring to us difficulty, reverse and pain. Likewise, choosing to hold abundance, faith and trust in mind will produce provision and the flow of good.

St. Paul advised us to have that mind in you that was in Christ Jesus. In other words I model myself after the highest and best. Jesus asked us to follow him and therefore I am honored to do so.

Dear God, today I hold thoughts of love, wisdom, power and possibility in my mind at all times. I let the Christ be my guide, the Christ Spirit my center and core. I know I have the power to be and to achieve all that I dare to hold in consciousness and am willing to bring forth into actuality. Thank you God for the miracle creating power of my mind in action. And so it is. Amen.     back to top

Life truly is what we make it.

Viktor Frankl survived life in a concentration camp because he never lost his inner strength and his compassion which gave his life meaning. He put the inner resources of Spirit first and so the guards could not destroy him with fear.

On the cross Jesus forgave and blessed his persecuters, thereby turning horror and pain into victory.

We have many examples, perhaps from our own lives, where seeming defeat was reversed, not by a change in the circumstances, but by a change of attitude.

Dear Lord, today I take my lead from you. Your inner resource of love, wisdom, peace and power give me everything I need to conduct a happy and helpful life. I know that I am not conditioned by outer events. Life really is what I choose to make it. Today, I rise above what might limit me, and trusting in you, I move ahead with vigor, energy and courage. After all life is what I make it. Thank you God. Amen.     back to top

February 6, 2006
The old courtly love saying stated, "Love conquers all." In a similar vein we affirm, "Only love prevails." Whichever one we use the essential meaning is the same, and that is that when everything else changes and dissolves, love remains. In a world of becoming we can trust love to simply BE.

This all-victorious nature of love is perfectly demonstrated in the life of Jesus, because when hatred and fear crucified, the Christ resurrected as forgiving love and healing grace. When we, in our humanness attempt to limit or confine, the Spirit in us breaks free and demonstrates limitless love and joy.

During this time dedicated to romantic love know that there is a deeper love of which the romantic kind is but a reflection. Know that this divine love is your true nature, loving and caring for you always.

Dear God, I thank you that your nature is love. Your love enfolds me and gives me strength, wisdom and power to prevail. Yes, true love conquers all and  brings peace and contentment into my world. Amen.

The quotation from Job that "the thing I feared has come upon me" is often quoted as evidence of the power of holding fearful thoughts and feelings in our consciousness. This is true, but we also have the power to hold influential thoughts and feelings of possibility, faith and love. These thoughts will also reap a harvest in our minds and lives - a harvest of expanded good, love and peace.

Today, I ask myself what I am consistently holding in mind. If it is fear-based, I change the trend by refraining from the negative, fearful or judgemental thoughts. Instead, I choose positive, optimistic and freeing thoughts and feelings knowing that they will bring me blessings.

Dear God, I understand that my mind is a wish fulfilling gem bringing me what I truly desire. Today my heart's desire is for you and your limitless qualities of good. As they flow to me, I vow to use them as a blessing of healing love in my world. And so it is. Amen.    back to top

December 12, 2005
Peace is an inner quality that provides us with calm even amidst the storms of our lives. It is not dependent on outer circumstances. On the contrary it is often the other way round: our world conforms to where we are in consciousness. In other words we create our heaven or hell depending on what we choose to hold in mind. As the words of the Peace Song say, "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me."

And so how we  choose to feel and respond to every event begins with us. How we choose to celebrate Christmas is up to us. Will it be a time of peace or of turmoil, a time to express the qualities of generosity and  compassion, or a time to be greedy and needy?

The Christ teaches us that we have everything we need already provided. Indeed the kingom of God is within us. From this understanding I am able to be creative, helpful and proactive. I express from the beautiful alter of peace and joy and wisdom within myself and experience a great Christmas.

Dear God, thank you for the Christ alive  in each of us this holiday season. And so it is. Amen.

As we move into the holiday season let us stay aware of all the things and people and circumstances that bless  us. So often,  in the push and rush of our lives, we take so much for granted. We forget the miracles of love and wonder that surround us.

There is so much convenience and abundance in our modern society. There are riches beyond the dreams of ancient beings readily available.

In the realm of Spirit there is infinite possibility and power.

With all this we are well advised to maintain an attitude of gratitude. Thank you God for the blessings of life; for loved ones, for friends and family, for the unexpected joys of being in your presence. Help me to be a vessel of your love and your good this Chirstmas time. I am founded in you and sustained by you now and always. And so it is. Amen     back to top

Thanksgiving is here! And in many ways, it is more important than ever to give thanks. Thank you God for our life, our freedom, our ability to worship the God of our understanding. Thank you for the beauty of nature, the generosity and nobility of the human spirit in spite of hatred, terror and anxiety. Thank you for the food abundantly provided in our land, for friends and for the infinite second chance you give us. For everthing and in everthing we say thank you.

Join me now in prayer for all those who find it difficult, because of circumstances or hurt or anger to give thanks. We see these souls enfolded in the miracle working power of God's Spirit. We send our love to them unconditionally. We see the healing activity of God at work in their lives. We pray joyously knowing that when we uplift another all are lifted up.

Dear God, Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. We give you the glory this Thanksgiving time. And so it is. Amen.     back to top

St. Paul said these beautiful words in his letter to the Philippians. He wrote, "Now, my firends, all that is true, all that is noble, all this is just and pure, all that is lovable and attractive, whatever is excellent and admirable - fill your thoughts with these things."

This wisdom states a universal principle: that if we want truth and nobility and justice, purity, excellence and love in our lives we are well advised to hold these thoughts in mind. In Unity we talk of the law of mind actions which states that, "Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind."

This week why not go on a fast from negativity. Refrain from blaming or judging, yourself or others. Instead, feast on the gifts of Spirit, gifts of forgiving love, abiding peace, protecting power, and transformative wisdom.

Dear God, I choose to hold thoughts that expand me this week. I choose You. You are powerful to effect change in my life. I acknowledge You as the source of all good. Your love heals and transforms my life. I hold You close in my mind and you become active in my life exerience. Thank You. And so it is. Amen

Inside of each of us is the very light and energy of Spirit. It expresses as life, as love, as wisdom. The most important thing that we can ever do is to discover and release that 'impassioned splender ' as Browning called it.

Scripture states that 'greater is the power of Spirit in me than any power in the world. ' When I discover it in myself I accept also that it is present in every other living being also. There is no them and us anymore. We are one in Spirit, one in love, and one in truth.

Dear God, Thank you for pouring out your Spirit of wholeness into my flesh and all flesh. I evdeavor to live  from an awareness of your Presence working in me. I arise from spearation and division to a fuller, more glorious understanding of Unity. Because of you, I am united with all people everywhere. There is one religion - the religion of love, and one language - the language of the heart. Thank you God that this is so. Amen.       back to top

October 19, 2005
Greater is the power of Spirit in you than any power in the world.

Sometimes dealing with circumstances, events and other people can seem overwhelming. Fear, hurt, resentment and anger can be triggered and we become confused and discouraged.

At times like these relax and know that God is still in charge. Return as soon as you can to a rememberance that this too shall pass. The light, love and life of God is here to uplift, lighten and heal any and every  situation.

Dear God,  I trust you
                     I rely on you
I let you be in charge of this situation and of my life. As Joseph said to his brothers: "You may have meant it for evil, but God meant it for good." Today I see the good, the blessing, the healing and the joy in what is before me. I give honor and glory to the One who creates and sustains me every moment of every day. Thank you God. Amen and have a God centered week.      back to top

September 28, 2005
Do you welcome new beginnings? Often we feel that we are so stuck in patterns, in habits, in our everyday routine that  there is little room for the new or the different. The actuality, though, is that everything is a new beginning. Each day we awake to a new day. Every breath we take is a fresh one. Just as you cannot step within the same river twice, as the great philosopher said, so we come to each experience with the possibility to see for the first time.

The fact the degree that we cannot feel this newness is the degree we live in the past or fantasize about the future. New is always new.

Dear God, I choose to let go of old habits and wake up to the newness and possibility of this moment. As the cosmic Christ states, "Behold, I make all things new." The past is gone, the future is a dream, the now is real. In this moment I feel your presence of love and wisdom, your peace and your power. I trust in You enough to open my eyes to the new day you create moment by moment. And so it is. Amen.     back to top

September 21, 2005
We often use the term divine order in Unity.  Regardless of appearances we affirm that divine order is established in our minds, in our circumstances, and in our world.  We do this because we know that God is in charge and God is order and harmony.

When chaos, turmoil, or disease come into our lives it is easy to feel that God doesn' t care, or we may feel overwhelmed or helpless.

The reality is that in this world of form and matter, everything changes.  What is born dies; what seems permanent isn't.  Yet in the midst of constant change is the essence of love and possibility, the creative center that makes everything possible.

This essence, this center, is God, everywhere present.  In the midst of turmoil in your own personal life;  in the midst of concern about the displaced people following hurricane Katrina; in the midst of any disturbance know that God as creativity, order, and possiblity is still present.

Dear God, I let You be more important to me  than my fears, my concerns, my pain.  I let You loose in me so that I can express Your love, Your wisdom, and Your peace in my life and in the world,  With You, I know  that all things are possible.

And so it is.  Amen.     back to top

September 8, 2005
During our Ten Days of Healing at Unity Church beginning on September 8, we will focus on healing of all kinds. But whatever kind, true healing comes from God. As Myrtle Fillmore, the co-founder of Unity, put it in a beautiful affirmation: "I sit in the omnipresent presence of the I AM. Here, I release and assume my perfect state of health and being."

Today I invite you to join me in doing this. Take a moment to rest, quietly in the all encompassing and all providing presence of Spirit. This I AM consciousness is the source of all that is. This consciousness is whole, complete, and free. As I rest in this awareness I realize this perfection is the truth of who I am and I let perfect health express in my body and being.

Dear God, I take time to be with you. I allow your presence to teach and inform me, to inspire and uplift me. I align with the Christ presence, the I AM consciousness within and I am empowered to be all that I am created to be. Thank you God for everything. And so it is. Amen   back to top

There is power in making a covenant with God. By so doing we consciously choose to let God into our lives. This means allowing God to be a primary focus in our minds and hearts. If we choose this we receive many blessings as long as we are willing to release personal control.

A typical covenant might include elements such as:
I allow Spirit to be my guide and inspiration
I behold the Christ in all people and do all things with love
I take time each day to center myself in Spirit
I endeavor to let my words and actions be loving, positive and non-judgemental
In return for my covenant to Spirit I know that I will receive protection, comfort and inspiration from God.

We can end our covenant with words of gratitude like;
   Thank you God, for everything
I am grateful for God's presence in my life.

Dear God, I consider making a covenant with You because I know it will help me set my prioirties right, and help me align myself with You. By so doing I am blessed and I become a blessing to others. And so it is. Thank You, God. Amen     back to top

August 18, 2005
Shakespeare wrote that "The course of true love never did run smooth." In other words, life is not without its tests. Just because we acknowledge that we are spiritual beings does not mean that all will be smooth sailing from now on. Being in a body/mind with its needs and ego drives means that there is always work to be done in terms of trust, release and alignment with Spirit.

Today I do not punish myself for being human. I do not indulge myself and wallow in pity either. Instead, I accept that challenges will come and that these are opportunities to grow in kindness and love.

Indeed, a test is often a sign that we have chosen a higher way and the Universe offers up a challenge to show our true determination and intent.

Dear Lord, I trust you in times of trial. I am not discouraged. You are in charge and give me strength to move forward. I follow in the footsteps of Jesus, who also went through adversity to victory, who showed the resurrecting power of love at work in the midst of the pain of the world. And so it is. Amen

Today  I move forward in love.      back to top

August 1, 2005
The prophet Jeremiah stated that the very name and nature of God is written on our hearts. Jesus declared that the kingdom of God is within us. In other words, the message is that we have a divine essence that is of God.

Today I remember that great Truth. I am a being of love and possibility because God dwells in me as life, wisdom, peace and power. I do not accept less than my birthright. Neither do I refuse to see that same divinity in others. Indeed, I offer for others that "I behold the Christ in you."

Dear God, I am so grateful that you have poured out your Spirit into my flesh. I am overawed to receive that gift of your love and light. I remain steadfast, vigilant and aware of the glorious inheritance that I have been given. I choose to let God be the head of my life because, in truth, that is my reality. This week I activate the miracle-working power of Spirit in my life and in my world.

Thank you God for making it all possible. An so it is. Amen     back to top

It is impossible not to take things personally sometimes. The reality of our human fraility and need is so apparent and so strong. Rather than getting lost in it though, or beating ourselves up for forgetting we are Spiritual beings, simply feel what you feel, acknowledge it for what it is, and MOVE ON! It is through inabiltiy and unwillness to move beyond our egos that keeps us imprisoned, not the fact of our humanness itself.

Today I accept that I have a body and a mind. The degree that I identify with this body-mind is the degree I am emeshed in ego. Today though, I also offer that I am more than my body-mind. I am Spirit, limitless and free. My true nature is love. In this understanding I am connected with every other being on this planet and with God.

Dear God, help me move from hurt to health, from fear to  loving faith, from ego to Spirit, from apparent limits to your limitless good. I accept my humanness but I nknow that I am more. I am a loved and loving child of the divine. Dear Lord, I am grateful for this great truth of my true nature. And so it is. Amen.   back to top

Nothing is impossible with God.

Just think, if this universe of mind-blowing size can be created out of nothing and sustained for 14-billion years then it is sensible to rely on the source of this great on-going creativity.

Why settle for anything less? Great achievements have been made not simply by extraordinary people but by ordinary people doing extraordinary things. In and of ourselves we are quite ordinary. But when we let the Spirit move and express through us amazing things are possible.

Today know that nothing is impossible with God. Allow God to be your higher power, your source, your senior partner.

Dear God, I know that I am not limited of condemmed by disease. You are vitalizing health. I am not confined to a dead-end job. You are satisfying and expansive provision and You create opportunities for fulfilling emplyment. I am not loveless. Your essence of love sustains me and brings meaningful relationships into my life this week, this day, this moment. I trust in You. With You God, all things are possible. And so it is. The world in which we live is one of infinite possibility. There are no limits to the good that God desires to give us. Often we can feel circumscribed by events, beliefs, jobs, and relationships. We accept less based on the evidence of our senses and the limits of our bodies.

Right now, know that you are not just your body, your history, or your ideas about yourself. Each one of  us is a precious child of God - a spiritual being living in a spiritual universe governed by spiritual laws.

Dear God, today I choose to focus not on the limits I see with my senses but on the invisible yet supremely powerful essence of divinity at work in and through everything. I am no longer conformed to the world but transformed by the renewing of my mind. My mind is always renewed when I let you, God, be the first and foremost power in my thoughts and in my life. Thank you for a universe of infinite possibility. And so it is. Amen.     back to top

All the great teachers from the Buddha to Saint Paul and even our great wayshower, Jesus Christ himself, taught that evil is not overcome by evil, evil is overcome by good.

Adding hurt to hurt or resentment to resentment only feeds the hurt, the resentment, and the problem. Even if we are justifierd what good does it do us if we hold it in anger. We only damage ourselves and limit the healing that could happen.

Today I choose to let go of the way I think it is and allow God to show me a new way. I do not want to be a person of resentment, fear and anger. I want to be what I am created to be - a being of love and helpfulness.

Dear God, I am open to your wise and gentle instructions. Teach me at depth so that I can release the old and build the new. Help me to forgive an to accept forgiveness. I choose to dwell in your house of unity and love this day and everyday. And so it is. Amen.     back to top

Today will you join me in giving thanks for all the people who make our lives possible. Far from being an island we are all interconnected with each other in a multitude of ways.

Nearly every item in our homes has be crafted by others. The food on our tables has come hundreds, even thousands, of miles from farmers we will never know. The Information we receive comes from a sophisticated web of jounelists and media sources and suppliers. From the water we drink, to the electricity and gas we use, to the toothpaste we buy, we are dependent on thousands of our fellow human beings.

For all this provision I say thank you. May I as a citizen of this country and a person on this planet be helpful in the same way. May I do my part, however humbly, to keep this great wheel of civilization and supply turning.

Dear God, I thank you for your children at work in your world, providing for my every need. I am appreciative and grateful for all that I have and enjoy. And so it is. Amen     back to top

Right now as you look, feel, taste, and hear the  various events and scenes of your world the awareness that sees, feels, tastes, and hears is unconditioned and free. It is pure Spirit, naturally and effortlessly present and aware. Whether we respond positively or negatively to events and situations they have no power to influence the peace, joy, beauty, wisdom, and love of this spacious presence.

Today I invite you to relax and enjoy the expansive presence of love that you are in Truth.

Dear God, You are present in me as pure Being. "I am," and from that "I am" everthing flows. As I look at others I see that they too are Spirit in action. Together we are the One experiencing as interesting forms and bodies in this world. I am not distracted by appearance, but I have a limitless capacity to experience and enjoy the play of life. From the Presence of love and wisdom that I am, I naturally express love, joy, and peace in my world. Thank you God for your gift of being who I am. And so it is. Amen     back to top

God is everywhere present. This beautiful statement means that God is always available to us in the ordinary, everyday events of our lives.

If we feel cut-off from God then it may not be God who is absent but rather us. For many reasons we feel unable to be present to the divine in us. Perhaps we feel too small or unworthy. Perhaps we feel that God if too busy to bother with us. Perhaps we have been taught that there is a separation between God and man.

Today know the Truth that God is everywhere present. God loves us unconditionally and is closer to us than our breathing, closer, more intimately involved with us, than our own arms and legs.

Dear God, I understand that you are available to me. Today I choose to be open and available to you. I let your love, your presence, your light and wisdom flow in me. I understand that I am your child. Wherever I go you are there with me as my guide and support. I trust you to bring forth blessings in my life. I am grateful and seek to be blessing in my world. So it is. Thank you God. Amen   back to top

I need your love - is that true? Of course we all yearn for love and to have real and satisfying relationships. The truth is, though, that we do not need someone else's love. We are already whole and complete because we are beings of love. Giving up the idea that someone else can fulfill or complete us is to open to the great truth of our own wholeness. Then from that awareness of the presence of love in us we can truly be present and loving for others.

Today I let go of the need to be fulfilled by circumstances, events or other people. God has created me whole and free. When I realize this truth for me I also acknowledge it for all people. I see love in all. Then I can truly be a giver and reciever of the love that we all are.

Dear God, Your gift to us is wholeness. Nothing needs to be added. We are beings of love because You are love. I relax in that knowledge. I let go of need and bathe in the presence of love. As I do so, I experience blessings and I become a blessing in my world. Amen.     back to top

"All things work together for good for those who love God." This Biblical statement makes it clear that in order to be successful and happy in the deepest sense of the word we are called to love God: In other words to choose God and Spirit before our humanness.

Jesus said very much the same thing when he asked us to "Seek first the kingdom of God and the rightness and harmony of God, and all the things we need will be added."

It is a question of priorities. Do I dare to let go of control and let God be in charge? If I have ever practiced this I know that it works. It is easy to go back to old ways of thinking and living though.

Today I remain vigilant in remembering to put God first.

Dear God, I love you and I know you love me. I am willing to surrender to you so that you can fill me with your wisdom, power and love. Help me to be a living vessel of your good so that I can be blessed and be a blessing for others. You are the one true reality and I owe everthing to you. In the name and nature of the Christ I pray and so it is. Amen     back to top

Life brings us many ups and downs - often ones that we cannot avoid. Sometimes things run smoothly, at other times we are confronted with storms we did not see coming.

Although we may not be able to change the way life unfolds we CAN determine our response to what happens.

Joseph in Genesis experienced times of success and also times of danger, imprisonment , and injustice. Throughout it all he maintained a calm presence. He trusted in God. In this way he did not let external circumstances to determine who he was.

Today, remember that you have the power to see from a higher perspective. You have the ability to let God be God in you. By so doing, God will bring a blessing to even the most unpromising of circumstance.

Dear God, I trust you. I know that there is a divine order running through all things. I relax and allow the harmony and wisdom at the heart of every situation to express. Then, even in the worst situations, I can know that what seemed meant for evil God means for good. Thank you God for being with me every step of the way. And so it is. Amen.   back to top

The Bible is a wonderful sourcebook for self-discovery. In it we find a blueprint to help us move from a limited human perspective all the way to Christ consciousness. There is wisdom, instruction, great literature, and inspiring stories in this great book. Not only that, there is a metaphysical or symbolic unfoldment that takes place when we see that the stories, events, and transformations are directly relevant to our own journey.

This week I encourage you to open your Bible and read. Look deeply at a sentence, a paragraph, or a story and ask Spirit to reveal its significance for you. Sometimes one line can illuminate a need. Sometimes the sweep of an event like the Exodus or the drama of a life like Joseph's or John's can resonate deep in our hearts and give us ways to live more effectively.

Dear God, I give thanks for the divinely inspired words of the Bible. I am open to new understanding, to the living Spirit of the Truth alive in every page. I do not let the Bible intimidate or confuse me. Instead I affirm before I read "Let there be light." I know that you will give me the understanding and insight I need as I let the words of the Bible come alive in my heart. And so it is. Amen     back to top

Now that Easter has come it is our time to put into practice the truths we have come to know and understand. If we don't the reserrection is in vain.

So this week I invite you to comtemplate with me the ways we can live more fully aligned with the Spirit. Perhaps we are able to let go of the petty, or at least to spend less time on obsessive details. Perhaps we can make a phone call or a visit to a friend we have not contacted in a while. Perhaps we can refrain from criticism and instead send a silent blessing of gratitude to those we meet each day.

The spiritual teacher, Maurine Stewart advised us to "let go but not let up." By balancing release with determination, relaxation with intention we become powerful vessels for God's love to flow.

Dear God, this week I am willing to love more fully, to give more freely, to see more compassionately and to hold you close as you do me. I affirm that you are my senior partner and you guide me faithfully every step of the way. I pray this in the name and nature of the resurrected Jesus Christ. And so it is. Amen.

In this Holy Week I invite you to experience the full message and demonstration of Jesus Christ. In his willingness to experience the terror and sadness of betrayal, trial and crucifixion as well as the joy of resurrection, he was able to embrace all that is means to be human AND divine. By so doing he became our true Wayshower - the one who suffered in this world, as we do, yet also rose victorious over all adversity, as we can too. Jesus' whole life and ministry are resurrection experiences. They call us to a higher awareness of what is possible. His victory on the cross is the victory of love over hatred, of joy over meanness and cruelty, of wisdom and grace over prejudice and judgement.

Dear God, I thank you for the amazing demonstration of your Son, our Wayshower and Elder Brother, Jesus. His life prepares the way for me. His victory is my victory. I am honored to follow in his footsteps, to be a follower and practitioner of the Way. I know also that the Christ is with me always as a guide and exemplar, as the Spirit of love and truth in me and in all. Thank you God for the full expression of love this Eastertime. And so it is. Amen.     back to top

St. Paul advised us to "...in everything give thanks." No matter what happens an attitude of  thankfulness and gratitude to God helps to bring a blessing into even the most unpromising of situations.

Sometimes we wait for something good to happen before we say thanks. We want to see results forgetful of the  fact that it is our choices that create what we experience. Why wait to be thankful or why wait to be happy. If we do we are dependent on circumstance and therefore disempowered.

Today I choose to give thanks at all times and in all circumstances because God is present and available always.

Dear Lord, my focus is constant. It is on you. I do not let the changeable nature of the world change me. I am centered and poised in the Christ Spirit. I give thanks for my birthright as a beautiful child of God and  nothing can disturb the calm peace of my soul.

This day I choose to in everthing give thanks. Like a spiritual magnet, it faithfully attracts my good. And so it is. Amen     back to top

There is often a peace that comes after a storm that is very beautiful because it is such sweet relief. In life, storms, literal and metaphysical, come but thankfully they also go. When you are in the midst of termoil know that it is destined to pass.

And there is something even more miraculous. The storm exists only in the world of time and change. There are no storms in Spirit. Even when we are overwhelmed with fear, hurt, anger or another life-storm, Spirit remains still and calm.

When the storm raged on the sea, Jesus was down below in the boat asleep. The disciples panicked but he was calm. Their cries alerted him to their human need, but he responded with quiet assurance. His gentle comment was "Peace, Be Still."

Whatever I am dealing with today I let the Spirit in me rule. I offer, "Peace Be Still." "Be still and know that I am God."

Dear Spirit, You are pure, still, unconditional love and peace. You are my reality. I rest in you. I give no energy to the storms of this world, I remain, I abide in you and all is well. Thank you God, Amen.   back to top

In every moment we have a choice - do I act, speak, or hold in mind love or something else? Am I building up or tearing down? This is true for whatever each moment brings. When I eat, talk, work, play, drive, I can do it with love in my heart or with something else. That somethng else can be a multitude of things -thoughts and emotions ranging from fear and lack to desire and anger. The responses here are complicated. the choice to love, though, is very simple. It is a willingness to see the best in every situation, to uplift rather than tear apart.

Dear Lord, I have been given the gift of each moment. Today I choose to live each moment with love first and foremost in my heart. I know that when I do this I am free of limiting beliefs and thoughts. I am available as a love-filled being to all in my world. I become a  true channel for your divine love, helping to heal and make whole all those in need. I am grateful for this gift and my ability to choose. Thank you God. Amen

An ancient Buddhist scripture says that "Nothing is as it seems. Neither is it otherwise." In other words don't be fooled by appearances, but don't think that there is a whold different order of things if only I could move beyond these appearances. The truth is that Spirit shines in and through what is but is not conditioned or limited by it. Jesus said the same things when he advised us to be "in the world but not of it."

So, today I accept the truth that everything I need is already present, enfolded in the everyday circumstances of my life. I don't have to make anything different to be happy and whole. I just have to see it differently.

Dear Lord, I do not buy into the world my ego and my humanness have created. I choose to focus on God and God's spirit of possibility. Your loving and wise presence has the power to wipe out  darkness and ignorance and pour out for me an overflowing blessing. For that I am eternally greatful and so it is. Amen

We seldom see clearly. We walk through life with eyes clouded by longing. We see what we want to see or what our hopes, desires, and fear color. It takes great determination and strength to let go of this conditioning and to see with the eyes of the Christ.

The Christ always sees with eyes of love and compassion. Even the meanest person is alive with possibility to Spirit. Appearance do not matter to the One who sees into the heart.

Within you and me today is the light and love of the Christ. It is fully formed in us. When we choose to see with the one-pointed focusof Spirit then we see that love and light are everywhere, in everything.

Dear God, I know that my humanness is partial. The Spirit in me is whole. Identifying with my story, my longings, my separateness leads to confusion. Letting Spirit shine in and through any humanness illuminates me and lets me see light in the world. Dear Lord, give me the strength today to see with the eyes of the Christ. I know that it is my birthright to do so. And so it is. Amen      back to top

Today, know that you are not a being confined by  circumstance, by the past, not even by space or time. Each one of us is a spiritual being, unlimited and free.

It doesn't always feel that way does it. We buy into all kinds of restrictions because we identify so strongly with our individual body and mind.

Our body/mind is temporary. Our spirit is eternal. It is the only true reality. Today I choose to spend more time in conscous awareness of the wonders of Spirit than I do focusing on my body. In fact when I let Spirit express full in me everything else falls into place.

Jesus knew this great truth when he asked us to seek God first and then all the things we need will be added.

Dear God, I spend more time today contemplating You. I identify with Spirit. I dwell in Spirit. I express Spirit. I see everyone I meet as a spiritual being. I see all events as opportunities to express love. In this way I am freed from conditions and circumstances. I realise all that I am created to be. And so it is. Amen.

Highs and lows, comings and goings, perpetual change seems to be the nature of all that is. When asked for a saying to remind him of the truth of existence, an ancient king received the now famous four word advice from a sage. It is  simply, "This too shall pass."

When we understand this we no longer fear getting lost in sadness, depression and pain, nor do we crave the ecstacy of joy and pleasure. Instead we rest in that amazinly peaceful place that embraces everything without attachment.

Dear Lord, I do not resist change. I know that things arise and dissolve, that highs and lows are part of the oceanic flow of the universe and my life. In the midst of it all, I stay centered and poised in the reality of who I am. I am Spirit; unlimited and free. Nothing has the power to disturb the calm peace of my soul.

Thank you God, for bringing me home to the still, silent place of Spirit, so that undaunted by the waves of life I can be a hapy and helpful presence in my world. And so it is. Amen    back to top

God has given us unlimited energy to accomplish every task. Sometimes it does not feel that way. We may feel tired, discouraged, full of trouble instead of full of beans.

Know this though: the energy and power of God is always available whether we feel it or not. God does not go anwhere, but waits patiently for our "yes," and willingness to recieve.

In his 94th year, Charles Fillmore, the cofounder of Unity, invoked this God energy when he declared, "I fairly sizzle with zeal and enthusiasm and spring forth with a mighty faith to do the things that ought to be done by me."

With that attitude we  easily accomplish the goal. With that zest for life we attract the power of God into every circumstance.

Dear God, I am open to your amazing energy. I am enthusiastic about my role as a cocreator with You. I spring forth with a might faith to do the work at hand. I am greateful that you have created me in your image to do your will of good in thei world. And so it is. Amen     back to top

There is a statement that has been circulating recently which reads:

   Good Morning, This is God!
I will be handling all your problems today.
I will NOT need your help - so have a good day!

There is a great truth embedded in this humerous statement. It is that God wants us to focus much more time on the solution than on the problem. The solution, of course, is God and God's qualities of love, trust, wisdom, peace, joy, and possibility. Focusing on the apparent problem does not usually give us a happy outcome, it only builds the problem. God is willing to handle all our problems because they are real only to the extent we self-create them. When we hand them over to God they dissolve into love.

Dear God, I trust you. You are the creator and sustaining power of the universe. Your will for us is good and only good. I let you take the burden and I spend my day focusing on your presence of love and wisdom. When I do this, incredible miracles flow into my life. And so it is. Thank you God, Amen    back to top

The new year has arrived! And with it comes the opportunity to begin again.

Although our lives may seem to be circumscribed in some way the truth is that God has created us as beings of timeless possibility. The choice, then, is ours. Do I continue to live from the confines of what seems to be my lot in life or do I dare to obey a higher calling?

It is wonderful to know that for every need there is a divine antidote. By taking my focus off the need and placing it on  the solution I activate the energy of Spirit.
For fear - faith and love
For lack - an acknowledgement of Gods abundance and provision
     For resentment - forgiveness
For tension - relaxing into the arms of God
For disease - life and strength
For confusion - God's penetrating wisdom
For guilt - Gods healing grace.

This week I choose to spend more time, energy, focus, and feeling on you God. And I relax into your love. Thank you God for being with me now and always. And so it is. Amen     back to top

As the new year approaches we have another opportunity to put the past behind us and embrace the new and fresh.

The cosmic Christ in the book of Revelation declares "Behold, I make all things new." This is what the Spirit in us does. It is not limited by space or time, by past or future. It is endlessly renewing and endlessly creative.

In order to feel and experience this newness we must do as Saint Paul did when he said, "I die daily." Daily I die to the old, to what was, to old certainties, old ideas, so that I can awake fresh and enthuastic to the new day.

This Christmas 2004 and New Year 2005, I am willing to die to the old and outworn and to trust and embrace the Spirit of newness and all possibility in me.

Dear God, Here I am. Willing to surrender to you - knowing that your desire and will for me is complete good, limitless love, and deep abiding peace. Thank you God that this is so. Amen     back to top
